How to Care For Your Wood Furniture

When it comes to your home, office, or business, your hardwood floors aren’t the only surface that needs regular maintenance and care. Often, we neglect or don’t know how to care for wood furniture, leaving it to collect dust, become dirty, or dry out.

Thankfully, caring for your wood furniture is simple, and we know the best steps to take (and best products to use!) to keep it looking great and long-lasting for years to come.

How to care for your wood furniture - Dusting a night table

1. Keep wood protected

First and foremost, you want to take care of your wood furniture by protecting it. Since wood can be more vulnerable than other furniture, it’s best to take extra precautions and be mindful of where you place it. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Don’t place wooden furniture in direct sunlight or moist areas.
  • Keep furniture away from heater units, vents, and fireplaces.
  • Use coasters on any surface you use to set drinks.
  • Use placemats or table cloths on larger surfaces, like your dining room table.
  • Be gentle when handling or using wood furniture.

2. Dust and clean wood regularly

For weekly or monthly cleaning of your wood furniture, dusting is usually sufficient. Use a feather duster or gentle cloth to wipe away surface-level dust that can collect. If you want more of a thorough clean, use WOCA Natural Soap Spray. It’s not only safe to use on any wooden surface in your home (including toys!), but it helps nourish and protect. All you have to do is shake, spray, and wipe your surfaces clean!

Pro tip: If you’re up against a tough spot or stain, level up with our Intensive Cleaner Spray, which you’ll want to have at-the-ready for our other wood-care tips.

3. Re-oil wood as needed

Caring for your wood furniture goes beyond dusting and cleaning. To keep it in optimal shape and looking impressive, re-oil once every four months with WOCA Maintenance Gel. Here are just some of the several perks of this product:

  • Can be used for wood furniture, kitchen work surfaces, and floors
  • Helps improve sheen levels
  • Suitable for factory- or UV-oiled surfaces
  • Can be applied with a polishing cloth for smaller surfaces, or with a machine buffer

Pro tip: For optimal results, clean your wood furniture with WOCA’s Intensive Cleaner Spray first.
